Part of our big picture life plan is a modern version of homesteading. In this vision we are gleaning knowledge from both the past and present to intertwine it into a modern view of living well for both us and the environment. We are not sticklers for any one philosophy or method. We just use what is practical for our location , restrictions, man power, and abilities.
Rune Hill Sanctuary is home to not only our family but to our livestock animals as well. We raise chickens, ducks, and goats for our own uses on the property. In addition to animals, we are growing a seasonal vegetable gardens, planting some perennial vegetables, berries, and fruit trees. The third part of our food security plan includes foraging for wild edibles like ramps, autumn olive berries, mushrooms, maple sap, etc.
We raise our livestock animals and grow our vegetables, fruits, and forages with some of the permaculture principles in mind. We are working towards producing a large portion of our food needs right here.
We are always a work in progress as we continue on our homesteading journey to be more independent .
